Ofloxacin like all other antibiotics have side effects. The most
frequent side effects are nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headache,
insomnia, dizziness, vaginitis in women and itching. Ofloxacin as
well as other antibiotics which belong to the class of
fluoroquinolone has been associated with tendinitis and rupture of
tendons, especially the Achilles tendon. Physicians usually
recommend their patients to discontinue vigorous exercise when they
take fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
This medication can also cause stomach upset and loss of appetite
during the first few days as your body adjusts to the medicine. If
these symptoms continue or become severe consult your doctor.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction like itching, rash, fever, swelling
and trouble in breathing may also occur.
Symptoms of nervous system stimulation, like euphoria, anxiety, and
hallucinations have rarely been reported. Unlikely but report
immediately if you have symptoms of vaginal discomfort, sleep
problems, ringing in ears and vision problems. The side effects vary
from person to person. Your alertness is what is going to make the
difference. Always ask the doctor if the medicine will react to any
other medication that you are already on.
When you feel the first few side effects itself consult a doctor,
don’t wait for it to get serious. Follow the doctor’s advice and
don’t try out any remedies suggested by friends and relatives.
Theses drugs have been created after thorough testing but the side
effects also have been tested and there is a big chance that you too
can face any of the side effects mentioned above.
